Simon Lee

Simon Lee is a barrister at William Forster Chambers in Darwin, Northern Territory.

Background

Simon Lee was admitted in the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2001 and the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in 2003.

In 1990 he graduated from Monash University, Victoria, with an Arts degree majoring in Japanese and Economics.

Before commencing his career in the law, Simon spent 5 years working in Tokyo for the Australian North West Shelf Project (NWSP) Oil and Gas Division at Mitsubishi Corporation where he was engaged in economic analysis of the depletion of the NWSP oil and gas fields.

In 1993 he moved to North East England where he read Law at the University of Durham (1993-1996) and in 1997 completed his Legal Practice Certificate at the College of Law in York.

Simon’s career then progressed as follows:-

• Graduate trainee Japanese Government Bond trader at Nomura International (London)
• Law clerk at the commercial litigation section of Freehills (Perth, WA)
• Article clerk (commercial property) at RM Legal (Perth, WA)
• Legal officer with the Australian Regular Army (Darwin)
• Summary prosecutor with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Darwin)

Simon is now a Reserve Army Legal officer. He is fluent in both French and Japanese.   He is a LEADR qualified Mediator and a Registered Adjudicator, Construction Contracts (Security of Payments) Act (NT).

Areas of Law

Simon practices in the areas of administrative law, criminal law and coronial practice. In addition, he would welcome work in the areas of commercial and corporate law.
