Peter Hanlon is a Barrister in Brisbane Queensland, and also a Barrister (Visiting Counsel) in Darwin, Northern Territory.
Peter was first admitted to practice as a barrister in Queensland on the 14th December, 1989, and in 2010 became a Visiting Counsel at Darwin in the Northern Territory, and in 2013 became a Visiting Counsel at William Forster Chambers in Darwin. He is also specifically admitted as a Barrister in New South Wales, and Victoria as well as of the High Court of Australia. He has a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Queensland University of Technology, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Bond University (Corporate), a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) from the University of Queensland (Commercial), and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the Queensland University of Technology (Family and Trusts).
Peter’s first taste of the law was as a member of the Northern Territory Police Force, having being trained at the Northern Territory Police Training Centre in Cavenagh Street, Darwin commencing in 1978.
Upon completion of his first law degree and admission as a Barrister, Peter worked with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Queensland (ODPP) before moving to the private Bar at the Inns of Court Brisbane.
Peter has been a Barrister at BENNETT CHAMBERS GROUP in Brisbane in Queensland for over 26 years and he is a Visiting Member of WILLIAM FORSTER CHAMBERS in Darwin in the Northern Territory.
He has gained a broad grounding in law in such areas as criminal law, civil law, personal and corporate insolvency law, commercial law, family law and defacto property law, wills, estates and succession law.
Peter has appeared in numerous Courts and Tribunals throughout Australia including the Magistrates Court of Queensland, the District Court of Queensland, the Supreme Court of Queensland, QCAT, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, the Family Court of Australia, Family Court of Western Australia, Northern Territory Local Court in its civil, criminal and regulatory jurisdictions, the Northern Territory Supreme Court in civil and criminal jurisdictions.
He has excellent interpersonal skills which he brings to bear in his work, with his clients, Instructing Solicitors, opposing lawyers, and with the bench.
He adopts a common sense approach to his professional work.
As he also has a strong sense of social justice and specialises in litigation, he accepts Legal Aid work in criminal, family and child protection matters as well as ICL work as well as pro bono work upon request.
