Peter Hanlon is a Barrister in Brisbane Queensland, and also a Barrister (Visiting Counsel) in Darwin, Northern Territory.
Peter was first admitted to practice as a barrister in Queensland on the 14th December, 1989, and in 2010 became a Visiting Counsel at Darwin in the Northern Territory. He is also specifically admitted as a Barrister in New South Wales, and Victoria as well as of the High Court of Australia. He has a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Queensland University of Technology, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Bond University, a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) from the University of Queensland, and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the Queensland University of Technology.
Prior to entering the law in the mid 80’s, Peter had a number of earlier careers in middle management in retail, firstly with a small family business then later with a large Australian corporate retailer, as well as his first taste of the law as a member of the NT Police Force. Upon completion of his first law degree and admission as a Barrister, Peter worked with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Queensland (ODPP, later DP). Since he commenced at the private Bar in Queensland in the early 90’s, Peter has practiced exclusively advising on a wide range of matters and appearing in numerous Tribunals and Courts including the Magistrates Court, the District Court, the Supreme Court, the Federal Court, the Family Court, and the Federal Magistrates Court. He has gained a broad grounding in law in such areas as criminal law, civil law, personal and corporate insolvency law, commercial law, family law and defacto property law. During the last 20 years or so, he has also appeared in numerous Courts in and around Australia.
Since Peter’s move to the private bar in the early 90’s he has continued to expand his practice and has appeared as lead counsel in a number of matters, both at first instance and on appeal. Also, during the 90’s whilst practicing full time at the private Bar, he participated in further studies to further enhance his legal knowledge and skills and consequently he has gained a number of post-graduate university degrees in such specialist fields as corporate law, commercial law and equity.
Peter is currently a member of the Queensland Bar Association, and he is a Visiting Member of the Northern Territory Bar Association.

Peter’s main areas of practice include advice and pleadings, trial advocacy, appellate advocacy, in corporate law, commercial law, family law and defacto property law.
