Admitted as a legal practitioner in 2003
Admitted as a barrister in 2015

Peter has over 10 years experience specializing in criminal law in the Northern Territory. Before joining John Toohey Chambers in 2015, Peter was the Deputy Managing Solicitor, Criminal Section of the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency.

As a barrister Peter appears in a broad range of criminal matters in the Magistrates Court, Supreme Court and Youth Court. He has appeared in several recent appeals to the Supreme Court. Peter has extensive experience advising in relation to drug charges, assault charges, traffic matters and applications for domestic violence orders.

Throughout his career, Peter has developed a strong interest in cross-language and cross-cultural communication, recognising the importance of effective communication with clients and witnesses from linguistically, culturally and socially diverse backgrounds.

In 2012 he undertook a 12 month secondment to the Aboriginal Interpreter Service, Northern Territory Government. This position involved providing legal training for Aboriginal Language Interpreters working in the criminal justice system. It also involved a major project to translate and record the police caution (provided to a suspect at the beginning of an interview) into 22 Aboriginal languages for use by the Northern Territory Police.
