Patrick McIntyre is a barrister at John Toohey Chambers in Darwin, Northern Territory.
Patrick was first admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in Adelaide, South Australia in 1979.
After working in Adelaide at two major law firms, Patrick established his own legal practice in Clare in rural South Australia in 1981. He remained in practice until moving to Darwin in 1994 to work in the area of Aboriginal rights and multi-party mediation.
Patrick practised predominantly as a solicitor and as counsel in civil litigation in the Adelaide and regional Magistrates, District , Supreme, AAT and Federal Courts.
His legal career has been dominated by large scale “representative type” civil claims that provided opportunities to explore and implement processes for management of decision making and dispute resolution within large groups of people.
Patrick has been a member of a large number of committees particularly in the area of dispute resolution including: Chairperson NT Chapter LEADR (1996, 1997, 1999, 2000), NT Law Reform Commission Alternative Dispute Resolution sub-committee (1998-99), Member Financial Services Complaints Resolution Scheme Conciliators Panel (1999), and Vice-President NT Top End Reconciliation Council (1998-99, 2000). He was a member of the Board of Darwin Theatre Company 1998-2000.
He has also written, directed and performed in productions for one of South Australia’s most successful amateur theatre companies “The Auburn Players” and played Australian Rules Football and hockey.
Patrick’s areas of practice include civil litigation (torts, civil rights, administrative law, trade practices, insurance law, native title and commercial), mediation and negotiation, multi-party and class actions.
