Background

After some years working for the Australian Taxation Office (in Sydney, Parramatta & Canberra), Mark graduated in 1984 with an LL.B from NSWIT (now UTS). He then worked for some years for the NSW Legal Aid Commission as a solicitor, mainly in criminal law. Since then, Mark has worked for NAALAS, the NTLAC (as criminal law counsel), the Coroner’s Office (as Deputy Coroner) and the Office of the DPP (as Crown Prosecutor). In October 2003, Mark joined the NTBA when he started work at the independent bar at Edmund Barton Chambers.  He moved to William Forster Chambers early in 2005, followed by Magayamirr Chambers in 2011.

Mark has been involved as a committee member for the NSW Law Society, as a director (and treasurer) for Kamira Farm (a drug rehabilitation organisation), volunteer at Macquarie Legal Centre and DCLS, and as a tutor/lecturer at CDU, as past secretary/treasurer of the NTBA and as past president of the Criminal Lawyers Association of the NT (CLANT). He is admitted to practice in the NT, in NSW and in England & Wales.
