Industrial Relations and Employment

Leigh has extensive experience in collective industrial disputes. He has advised on or acted in all types of applications arising under the FW Act, and has particular experience in the management of industrial action.  He has also acted in a number of employee statutory and contractual claims, as well as disciplinary proceedings.

Administrative and Constitutional Law

A large part of Leigh’s practice prior coming to the bar involved advising State and Federal public sector clients, through which he gained significant experience in judicial review, constitutional law and general public law issues. He is presently completing a Masters of Public and International Law at the University of Melbourne.

Regulatory Enforcement and Litigation

Leigh has been involved in a variety of regulatory prosecutions, inquiries and investigations.  This has included matters involving WorkSafe, NOPSEMA, ACCC, the industrial inspectorates (FWO, FWBC and FWC), and the ATO.  He has a particular interest in the Australian Consumer Law in this context.

Discrimination and Human Rights

Leigh has acted in a number of discrimination claims under both State and Federal legislation.  He has also acted in Charter-based litigation at VCAT and the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Leigh was a Senior Associate at Clayton Utz and an Associate to Judge T Ginnane of the County Court of Victoria (as his Honour then was).  He is a co-editor of the contract law chapter of Halsbury’s Laws of Australia, and has published widely on a variety of topics.  In 2016, Leigh was noted as a ‘Rising Star’ in the areas of employment and safety in Doyle’s Guide to the Australian Legal Profession.
