John Stewart

John Stewart is a barrister at John Toohey Chambers in Darwin, Northern Territory.

Background

John moved to the Northern Territory after extensive experience as a solicitor in Sydney and country New South Wales. He joined Ward Keller in 1985. He was a litigation partner for 24 years including 6 years as managing partner. He has handled a large number of significant cases involving litigation and mediation within the Northern Territory, interstate and overseas. He joined John Toohey Chambers in 2010.  

John is the Chairman of Thoroughbred Racing NT, the Deputy Chairman of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal and the Legal Member of the Building Practitioners Board.

Areas of Practice

John’s areas of practice are predominately in civil litigation including:-

  • commercial disputes
  • motor accidents and other personal injuries claims
  • professional negligence
  • insurance claims
  • deceased estate disputes
  • administrative law matters.
